Olay Daily Facials

Posted: August 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

Honesty time here, I buy things mostly on sale and using coupons. In a little bit of the sense of the word, I have a small stockpile. We are talking about a rubbermaid container of beauty products, so not a huge amount,  but still a fair amount of product.

With that said, I am slowly moving through  my stockpile. For the last month as I have been using the vichy normaderm cream, I have also been using the olay daily facials.

The product is expensive to buy at regular price around $9, and doesn’t go on sale often, so it sucks if you get hooked on it then you are needing to either stock up when it is on sale or pay the full price.

You get 33 clothes per container. The clothes are the size of a face cloth and have two sides, a rough, and a smooth side. The clothes contain a cleansing product, you just wet, lather and use.

Being on the cheap side, I cut the clothes in either half or into four. I found that there is a lot of product on the clothes, so 1/4 size worked for the product, but I found it too small to use to wash the product off. So I go with half size. i feel wasteful otherwise.

I’ve been using it for a month, and I have to say my skin has gotten better. I have less break-outs. I think part of it, is that I am using basically a clean face cloth each time I wash. So I don’t have to worry about bacteria etc.

The downside is the cost, and the waste it creates, as you throw out each cloth after using it. Although I have been using the used ones to lightly clean my sink and then throwing them out.

I have to say though they do work in taking off make-up, and for me it will be one of those things that I keep in the suitcase for when I am traveling. I will buy them again, but only when on clearance or on sale with a coupon.

Made it through the storm

Posted: August 29, 2011 in Uncategorized

Well, I made it through the storm, all by myself. I am so grateful for people like Lorne, and for people like Annie, who called this morning to make sure I got through the storm alright.

The leaking plug has currently been capped, so it shouldn’t cause any more water leakage. That is a good thing. Again someone coming from the city into small rural (maritime rural). There is a huge difference in Ontario Rural and then Maritime Rural. Being in a place that is rural in Ontario there is still a shopping mall in the town. While in the Maritimes rural means that you are 30 minutes away from the closest store.

I will be thankful when my partner comes back, and also when this wind stops. We are still getting pretty strong wind gusts.

And, this is very exciting news, I have just been accepted to be a booksneeze reviewer. So you can expect book reviews in the upcoming weeks.

Well, it’s not a good experience to have a hurricane heading your way while your partner is in another province. I’m in this new house, and I am still getting used to things around here.

I walk down into the basement to find myself faced with water. The basement is unfinished, but still water inside is never good. So here I am alone, just me and the cats, now knowing what to do. So I call the fix it guy.

He comes down lickety split, and I find out the water is coming from the mysterious pipe in the basement. This mysterious pipe did at some point have a purpose, it used to be used with something called a sump pump.

For those of you like me who have no idea what this type of contraption is, here is a wiki link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sump_pump

Anyway, at some point the town fixed the drainage problem with eliminated the need for a sump pump. So they just plugged up the sump pump drainage pipe which led outside. Over the years the pipe’s stuffing has come out which led to today which a mini river growing in the basement. The water outside was coming in through the pipe. Not exactly what one wants to happen.

Now it is filled with plastic bags and tomorrow it will be capped.

I am a leak finder. I miss living in populated areas. I am not a country folk.

Vichy Normaderm Day Cream

Posted: August 26, 2011 in Uncategorized

I’ve had a chance to use this new product by vichy for two weeks now. I put it to the test while on the Bus trip to Rendezvous. This trip meant sleeping on the floors and no showers for 4 days. So it was putting this new product through the ringer.

It is in a nice green container, which stands on it’s end. I like that design as it means  little product wastage. It does have a perfume smell to it, so if you are sensitive to scented products you may want to avoid this product.

I started out using it twice a day, in the morning and at night. After washing my face, I put it on. It isn’t greasy, and it doesn’t seem to make my face shiny. Vichy states it will make your face Matte. I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that.

I used it under my sunscreen each day. I have to admit I think that it had the effect of protecting my skin against the harshness of the SPF 110 sunscreen. Normally the sunscreen irritates my skin, but using a moisturizer first, it seemed to help with that.

After two weeks I have noticed that my skin is smoother, less broken out. As for wrinkles, I am not sure that I am noticing a difference there. It may take more time in testing it to come to a better conclusion.

As an aside, vichy is an expensive brand. I’m on the fence as to whether I would seriously consider buying this as my regular cream due to the price, it doesn’t go on sale often. It does have appeared to normalize my skin.

There is an offer currently on facebook through vichy to try a 4 day sample of the product. So why not go out and try it for yourself. Let me know what you think: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/NormadermCanada

If you go to their website: http://www.normaderm.ca/ca-en/ you can start your own diagnosis and find what products would be best for your skin.

It’s oh so quiet

Posted: August 26, 2011 in Uncategorized

I have to admit that right now it is nice to be able to sit in my living room and hear just the wind.

My partner in crime has just left for a few days at the church camp. So I am in the house alone, just me and the cats.

I’m still not sure what to think of this place. It is so quiet and in some ways it is lonely. Sure we have each other, but will that be enough? It’s also tough with only one of us working. Why is it so hard to find work here?

It’s such a change from Toronto, where there is so much busyness and rushing around. Here is in the words of Bjork, “Oh so quiet”.

I’ve been able to see quite a bit of wildlife while here, a moose, a baby bear, and nightly visits from raccoons.

I thought that in order to kick off a new life so to speak, I should try to have a new blog. It’s lonely on here too until I start making some more blog friends.

I hope that this will give me space to practice my writing, and just a space to be creative and have a bit of everything. I’ve been bouncing back and forth the idea of having a review blog. Until I get either a ton of followers or something to review, it may just consist of me rambling on until then.

New Town = New Blog
