Dream: Discovering God’s Purpose for Your Life by Dutch Sheets

Published by Bethany House 2012

“What happened to us? Why are so many people let down by life? We once had dreams- important dreams that gave us purpose- but somehow we got off track.”

The book Dream is more than just a regular book, it is a workbook to help the reader get back on track. The writer demonstrates that God is a dreamer and that as God’s creation, God wants us to dream as well. Often we get offtrack, and move away from our dreams. Sheets challenges us to re-evaluate our lives, and to begin to dream again.

Sheets writes in an easily understandable manner. I found myself just wanting to read more and more chapters. That approach however does not work for this type of book. Sheets encourages the reader to reflect on each chapter through a series of questions at the end of each chapter. I found some of the questions easy, but others very challenging. As the reader goes deeper into the book, the questions get a little more challenging as the reader begins to face the issues that has stopped them from dreaming.

Sheets uses some great examples of dreamers across history from Charles Shultz to Martin Luther King Jr. and many others. I enjoyed the way that the author intertwined other people’s stories with his own and invites the reader to think about their own dream story.

If you are feeling drowned by the pressures of the world, or that you have moved away from your dreams, I would invite you to learn how to dream again through Dutch Sheets book. The author gave me a lot to think about and this is a book I will keep on my bookshelf.
