Sorry for the delay in writing about day 2. As you can imagine the days have been filled with discussion, debate, prayer, worship and also laughter.

The days start with breakfast at around 7:30 am, and they end around 9:30 pm. There is a 30 minute break in the morning and in the afternoon, and other than that it’s all business except for meals.

I’ve learned a lot about the UCC and the structure of the UCC that I never learned before. I am able to put faces to the names that I’ve seen on emails and correspondence.

We’ve been making history so far. For the first time in the history of the United Church of Canada a level three remit has passed. This means changes to the Basis of Union (the addition of The 1940’s statement of faith, A New Creed and A song of faith) and changes to our crest (which includes wording and colors from our First Nations brothers and sisters).

We are having a comprehensive review of the whole church, this is the first time that this has been done. Small reviews have happened but never a whole review. In 87 years I think that it is time, don’t you?

Today we heard from our record breaking 15 nominees for Moderator. There was a lot of wisdom shared and a lot of excitement shared. I loved hearing the enthusiasm for this united church of ours.

I do find that some interest groups are getting very pushy and in your face, which I do not like. Talking with others they are finding the same thing. I did however manage to get one of these pushy people off topic and talk about solar panels, which lead to a fruitful non-frustrating conversation.

There has been a lot of wordsmithing which can get tiresome and frustrating. We still have a lot of things ahead of us to debate.
